BENEDIKT GUDGEIRSSON

BUTCHER AT BG MEATPRODUCTS
Egilsstaðir, ICELAND

Benedikt Þorvaldur Guðgeirsson Hjarðar lives in Egilsstaðir, a small town in eastern Iceland. He runs a small butchering company, BG Meatproducts, where he debones caribou during the hunting season and works with local farmers throughout the rest of the year.

He grew up on a farm approximately 45 minutes outside Egilsstaðir, where his interest in butchery first took root. That rural upbringing shaped both his professional path and his close connection to the land. Benedikt is a member of the Icelandic national butchering team and competed in the World Butchers’ Challenge in Paris last summer.

Before pursuing a career in butchery, he was a competitive basketball player and won the Icelandic national championship in the 2020–2021 season with Þór Þorlákshöfn.

Benedikt is married to his wife, Guðrún, and together they have a three-year-old daughter named Röskva. The outdoors and nature have always been central to his life, reflected in his main interests, which include hunting, hiking, music, and traveling.
